November Events

Julie Harris summarized the Guilford Poets Guild November reading: “David Axelrod, the Poet Laureate of Suffolk County, read to a delighted audience at the Greene Gallery on Thursday evening, November 13th.  He chose poems from three of his published collections and was preceded by an Open Mic beginning at 7 PM.  This was his first Guilford appearance and, judging by the response of those attending, it certainly won’t be his last.”

On Saturday afternoon, November 15th, members of the Guilford Poets Guild read at the Central Gallery in Old Saybrook. The following poets all read a few of their poems: Pat O’Brien (who introduced the group), Gordy Whiteman, Julie Harris, Jane Muir, Nancy Meneeley, Pat Bullard, Sharon Olson, Richard Tietjen and Gwen Gunn. The theme of the reading, which followed the current gallery exhibition, was “The Good Earth,” and the attentive audience (quite a crowd for a blustery, rainy day) seemed to enjoy the reading. Hillary Seltzer, the gallery owner, was a gracious hostess, and the reception afterwards was highlighted by Richard’s father’s delicious mulberry wine.
